Telecommunications

We have significant knowledge of the telecommunications sector with our Founding Member, who leads our Telecommunications unit having been part of the consortium of lawyers who drafted the Nigerian Telecommunications Act, 2003. She also worked with a consortium of professionals in negotiating various contracts on behalf of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) with Telecommunication Companies (Telcos), interconnectivity agreements between NITEL and the GSM operators, and conducted legal due diligence on Telcos in Nigeria and abroad. She advised the Presidency on the legality of granting a national carrier a concession over the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s infrastructure in view of the rights and interests of other existing concessions.

During the first attempt by the Federal Government of Nigeria to privatise the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL), she was instructed to conduct the due diligence investigation on prospective foreign investors/partners. She also represented telecommunications companies in their negotiations and drafting of various contracts in the Telecommunications Industry such as Equipment Sales Agreements, Construction of Cable Network Agreements (i.e. construction of Fibre Optic Backbone), Base Transmission Station Construction Contracts, and ancillary contracts.

We currently provide legal and policy guidance to several local Telco’s.
